The  10th annual Lunar New Year Luncheon was hosted by the Asian American Business Council of the Chamber and co-chaired by Ram Gopal, Cupertino Bakery, and Vicky Tsai, DryClean Pro. Held February 24 at Alan Wong’s Dynasty Seafood Restaurant, a warm crowd of some 150 enjoyed the festivities and networking on a cold, damp Thursday noon.

The food was the best ever at the Dynasty, thanks to Vicky Tsai’s menu selection–Congratulations, Vicky! Official remarks were made by 5th District Supervisor Liz Kniss and Cupertino Vice Mayor Orrin Mahoney. All the usual elected and appointed officials and candidates for office were recognized, and the drawing for door prizes generated its own excitement. Past AABC Board chairs and members also were recognized, including founder Rich Abdalah.

The highpoint of the event was the award of the Business Community Bridge Award to Gilbert Wong for his continuing efforts to integrate of all businesses into the Chamber and the community as well as his active support of different community ethnic events for many years. Gilbert began his community involvement in the Chamber and then also the City and was elected to the City Council November 6, 2007.

This was the first event chaired by new Chamber President Bob Adams which the writer had occasion to attend, and it was the general consensus that the Chamber will have a good year under President Bob’s leadership. Kudos to Chamber Chief Executive Officer Christine Giusiana and her able staff on a well-organized event which and started and ended on time–and everyone left smiling.
