California had an early Primary Election
this year, the premise being that California’s Primary "would count
more, and California would be noticed" well, it did, but we weren’t. That’s
why the upcoming election on June 3rd, in which we will cast the current ballots
we either received in the mail or will get at the polls is still
considered a "Primary" election,
even though we already had a "Primary". Now they tell us the January election
was a "Special Primary Election" (even if we no longer think it was all
that special) and confusion abounds.
Call it what you will, all I know
is it’s a difficult election in which to have your vote count. Here’s
the real deal. In order to vote for one of the candidates running in
the 22nd Assembly District you must have a ballot marked: DEMOCRACT, even if you aren’t because all four:
Dominic Caserta, Kris Wang, Paul Fong and Anna Song are all Democrats. If
you want to vote for one of them and your ballot is either Republican, Declines
to state or something else and the four candidates are not on your ballot you
MUST personally either take the ballot you received to the office of the
Santa Clara County Registrar of voters at: 1555 - Berger Dr., Bldg. 2 in San
Jose, turn in the ballot you received and either ask for a ballot
marked Democrat and cast this ballot early while you
are there OR, on election day, June 3rd, you can go directly to your
polling place (ours is St. Joseph’s Church on DeAnza) and trade the ballot you
received in the mail, for one marked Democrat and vote on election day. It’s
still exciting to go to the polls in person. Another problem that arose this
year is that one Candidate, Dominic Caserta does not have a ballot statement in
the Ballots that came to our homes, but Dominic Caserta IS INDEED a candidate
for the 22nd Assembly District. Could it be any more confusing? I suppose so,
but I don’t know how. So after all this, wherever you vote and whomever you vote
for, please exercise your civic duty and vote. Think of all the people still
living in countries where they are not allowed to vote and remember how lucky we
are to have this right. - editor
