Home owners who have gone to the time, trouble and huge expense to install Solar
Panels on their roofs in order to lure the sun into their electric outlets are
finding there is a discrepancy our city, county or state government should look
into making right.
While the meter runs backwards and solar panel homes no longer receive charges for
electricity (but are hit with a meter charge), at the end of the year when the
amount of usage is tallied, there is no credit for leftover electricity not
used. Rather it goes directly into the deep pockets of PG&E. That’s just
wrong. Bad policy. Greedy.
If PG&E doesn’t credit homeowners who have gone to the great expense of installing the
energy saving ugly panels on their roofs, why should the corporate entity
of PG&E be the one to profit from the homeowner’s who commit with their
dollars and added ugliness on their roof to do a good thing?
If the homeowner’s can’t be reimbursed for their added savings of energy, why can’t their credits be
passed on to our schools, our city buildings, to non-profit organizations or to
those living in poverty? Somehow it doesn’t seem fair for PG&E to
profit from our good deeds.
Dear City Hall - Can you figure out a way to correct this injustice? I would venture to say there
are thousands of energy dollars saved by homeowner’s in our city at this point,
and many more will come along in the future. Why can’t Cupertino keep those
$$ right here in our town? -
