Measure B – Chamber Urges Support

180px-cupertinocitysealThe secret to surviving economic tremors is a strong economic foundation and transportation is a key part of that foundation.  The Cupertino Chamber of Commerce understands investing in infrastructure during uncertain times and that is why the Chamber is supporting Measure B on the November 4th ballot.

Bringing BART to Silicon Valley will make it easier for commuters to get to work and will stimulate residential and commercial development.  The 16.1 mile extension of BART will link Caltrain to downtown San Jose and Santa Clara, creating a rapid rail system around the Bay.

BART will be an engine of economic growth.  Beginning with its construction, BART will create jobs and grow our economy.  It will put people to work so that we can get to work more easily.  Specifically, building the extension will create 2,400 temporary jobs, and between 2,400 and 7,300 permanent jobs.  It will add from $6 billion to $11.4 billion to the amount of goods and services produced by the regional economy.

A recent report from the consulting firm of Wilbur Smith Associates found that the extension will create thousands of permanent new jobs, save billions of dollars via shorter travel times and add more than a billion dollars to personal incomes in the area.

Businesses know that during uncertain times we cannot stop investing in our economic future.  Please join the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce and vote YES for Proposition 1A on Tuesday, November 4th.
