At Cupertino Hanukkah Menorah Lighting
Cupertino Mayor Orrin Mahoney greeted a large group of celebrants who braved the cold and rain to participate in the lighting of the first of eight Hanukkah candles on Dec. 21.2008 in Cali Mill Plaza. It was good to see so many people bundled up against the wind and ignoring the rain to help the Mayor and Rabbi Reuven Goldstein from Chabad of Cupertino commemorate the victory in the first battle for religious freedom in the history of the world by the Maccabees against the tyrannic rule of Antiochus IV in the year 199 BCE. City officials joining Mayor Mahoney were: Councilmember Mark Santoro, Planning Commission Chair Marty Miller and Cupertino Medical Response Chair, Fari Aberg. Potato Latkes, Sofganiot and other refreshments–music and dancing were enjoyed. This really was an example of Dancing In The Rain.
